I came up with this idea after I had a sneak attack by a Cholla cactus at LSD "Little San Domingo" in Arizona.

I had set my detector down beside me while I dug a target. When I picked it back up I stuck my arm in the cuff, grabbed the grip and pulled it into my side getting ready to start swinging again.

Well at first I thought I had been hit by a shotgun blast, or bolt of lighting or something. I screamed words that I can't write here, if you get the drift.

What had happened was I had one of Doc's polythene foam covers covering my mains box for protection. When I had sat it down one of these buds from the Jumping Cholla's had attached its self to the foam on my hip side.

When I slapped it against my hip, well you know, I spoke out loud, to god and everyone within a mile or so. When I pulled it away from my hip, half went with the detector, half stayed in my hip. I tried to pull my pants away from my hip, ouchie, didn't work. So I grabbed the little feller with my hand and jerked. Well now I have needles in my hip & pants and three of my fingers are pined together like a Chinese torture device and bleeding. So I step on the piece holding my fingers and jerk my hand away. As I did this the needles going through my pants into my butt cheek where gently massaged by this movement. OUCHieeee

Any where including the desert is not a good place to try and ask someone to come and pull cactus needles out of your bare asss, so I dropped the drawers and commenced to pull these barbed 1 1/2 inch long little buggers out of my hinny. A nice bead of blood marked each hole.

So I thought, I will never let this happen again. I will talk to the man that gave me this cactus magnet "Doc Pain" and see if we can come up with a fix.

So it was only 2 days until the Rich Hill Outing, and guess who was there, My Doctor. I asked him to sew one of his leather covers over the outside of one of his foam covers. I thought this would give me padding and a cactus proof mains cover.

Well he tried but the heavy duty sewing machine he had to go through the leather would push and expand the foam so that it keep growing faster than the leather. So his stopped. I was in his office in Vegas and he gave me the piece of leather he had worked on. So I sat at a bar in a casino and 8 beers and $35 later I had it.

I bought a tube of Marine Grade Goop and glued the leather to the foam. It works great. Double the protection and nothing sticks to it.
