These are one of these things that nobody believes you!
So after three years (a little older) and my new digital
I made that long hike (no trails just bolders) up there!
Since three years I am
how to get them out of the crack without braking them!
The Quartz is solid like steel, regardless of the numerous cracks!
Would like to give them to the L.A. Museum of Natural History!
Best wishes,
Frank

FMCA,
Nice Microline Amazonite. Those are some big ones. Maybe you could enlist some of the experienced Colorado Amazonite diggers for advice on releasing the stones. I think they usually look for vugs, those look like they may be encased for the ages. Maybe a few drill holes strategically placed and a bit of dynamite or some of those expanding compounds would crack the cluster of crystals loose. Thanks for sharing those field images.

Hi Rex,
Yes they are very unusual for the area,
99.99 % percent of what you find on the hill is the size of your
average fingernail!
No Dynamite!
BLM would arrest me!
Maybe I can get a museum to pull some strings at the
CA BLM Headquarters!
Had found another Dike close to this one with similar size crystals,
but a worse situation with a much more solid matrix (no cracks at all)
Best wishes,
Frank |

FMCA,
Ok, yep, I agree, BLM land + dynamite = bad idea. Your museum idea sounds like it's at least worth a shot. Are you a geologist by chance?

Hi Rex,
No - just a hobby I can't shake
since I learned to crawl!
That would make it over 40 and some years
