I thought I would post these. I did not find them myself but purchased them from a fellow who lives out by Rye Patch. Some of you may know him by the name of Crystal John, and he also goes by the moniker "Peg Leg". If anyone is out at Rye Patch I recommend you pay him a visit and look over his crystals. Maybe you'll find something you would also like to go home with. His prices are also very reasonable and you won't find a better bargain. If you go up the the last road (most southerly) with tires, I think about two or three roads south of the main Rye Patch road, it should be the Cavanaugh Wash Rd. Go up that into the hills and you should find him there.

I was kind of salivating. Shocked I wish I found them myself but I did find some on my own, just not as nice as these. Crystal John does quite a bit of excavation to dig down to the larger undamaged crystals. I found most of mine in washes, but if you look around you will see quartz outcroppings often with a pit dug in the center, you can be sure it is the work of Crystal John. Around his holes you can find the occasional decent crystal. One quartz patch he has not touched is actually the camping spot which I believe is the one right above, or a couple above the camping spot with the barrel. Just on the slope toward the lake there is a patch that probably still have some buried crystals that can be screened out. The largest we got out of it was about a 3" by 1.5" undamaged crystal. The were all very clear and of good quality. We, meaning me and young man around 11 yrs old, I let him keep the big crystal. You can recognize this particular patch by all the orange soil and some digging that went on not long ago.

There's an area north of Rye Patch placers where I hiked in and found a hillside covered with crystals. It looked like a new find if you ask me. No excavations or holes that I could see. Filled my backpack up and that was the last I saw it as I headed south to Az a couple days later. Haven't been back since. It's still there and I'm sure there's other areas yet to be discovered that have crystals or other items of interest. You just need to "Go where no man has gone before".

Yep, there are quartz piles all over out there, some have obvious crystals but it sounds like yours was better than most since it did not appear to be picked over. Got any gps coordinates? Grin

No GPS coordinates.. I did have a GPS unit at the time but the battery was getting low so I didn't take it. I figured I wouldn't need it anyway since I hadn't planned on taking a really long hike. I just kept walking and walking and simply stumbled onto them.

I only saw their post on the internet, looked pretty good to me too. I think they went off somewhere way off around the campsite, not at Rye Patch itself, quite a find. Grin

Yup, I was wandering around on my ATV just over the hill west of camp and founfd a ridgetop with a very long exposed quartz vein with crystals everywhere. Majuba Tom and I went the day after and had a ball finding plenty........ I will return to do some more serious excavating!
