Nevada Aesthetic Mineral SitesWhen I was in Nevada - I was really more interested in the gold lode and placer areas then the collectable mineral areas. What's being found in Nevada these days other then the usual opal, turquoise and other semiprecious lapidary material. Any good mineral locations anyplace?

Goldfinger,
You might have noticed that Reno Chris pretty much answered your question on another post.

Hi Chris:
Thanks for the info on the book. I was unaware they had published anything like that. It is VERY expensive ($75.00) but you can but a used one for around $30.00 from Amazon.

If you get a copy of the book, look up Topaz and Epidote. There are 2 little known sites in Nevada - one that yields museum quality Epidote crystals and another that yields Topaz and Amazonite feldspar similar to those found in Colorado.
Also, there have been some very nice barite crystal specimens coming from the underground mines in the Carlin area.
I paid full price for mine, and it is worth the $75 (of course even better if you can get it for less).

Are these barite specimens coming from the gold mines in that area or some other type ore mines?
