Wildfire near Imlay, NVThis has been burning a couple days and is only 30% contained according to the report. I think the report may be confusing as Rye Patch Reservoir is about three miles west of Imlay, but the Tungsten area is actually about eight miles north of Imlay. It makes it sound like the fire is 3 miles west of Imlay which I don't think is most likely the case yet. It appears the fire began on the SE flank of the Eugene Mtns.

Yes, there is quite a few fires going on right now. For the last couple of days Winnemucca has been in a smoke out.

Yeah, I hear NV, CA, UT, AZ, SD, etc are all experiencing fires. It's really dry and hot out there. I heard AZ was experiencing a cool off, sub 110 degree weather!

Hi Guys:
I remember one time when a fire burned an area from behind the Burns truck stop at Mill City all the way back to Jungo Road. We actually saw the fire start from lightning while we were driving back from Winnemucca.
All of us figured we were going to have a field day as it swept through some of the patches in that area. Needless to say- no one found anything in spite of all the vegatation that disappeared.

Here's a link to about a dozen photos from the Tungsten Fire. It looks like if the Rye Patch Reservoir weren't there it would have taken quite a bit longer to put out the fire:

I haven't been in that area for quite some time and don't recognize much except the one with Pole Canyon in it. Looks like it scorched the hillsides quite a bit. The last major fire I know of basically burned all the flat areas to the east.

By the way- do you guys still have to take the long way back through Imlay to get to Tungsten and the Eugene Mtns from the truck stop at Mill City? Or did they finally fix that bridge over the Humbolt?

I can answer that Steve. There is a bridge between Mill City and Tungsten. I came across it last week and am now camped in the burned area just north of Tungsten. I figured this is the safest place to be around here. It is hot though. It was 100 yesterday and barely got down to 70 overnight. Today will be about 100 again. More lightning storms are predicted this week.
There is a new operation going in Tungsten too BTW.

Hi Slim:
The county closed that bridge at one time since they found it to be structurally unsound. Everyone was pissed since we used to go to the truck stop at Mill City all the time and had to go the back way through Imlay which added another 10-15 miles to the trip. I was just wondering if the finally fixed it or if everyone is just ignoring all the signs and barriers.
I met the caretaker at Tungsten a few times and got permission to hunt amethyst and scheelite crystals on that property. Surprised something is going on as it was quite a mess when I saw it. I guess high metal prices would justify any startup costs. I wonder if the're actually mining or just exploration drilling
Some really good gold has been found in the area towards Jungo Rd and there's a lot more left but everything is under claim back there. Of course that whole area around you has a good history. You might be able to find some areas to hunt if you hang around the truck stop (diner) at Mill City. That's where many of the prospectors eat and they could probably point you in the right direction.

Steve, I'm sure they put in a new bridge. My first day here I met a guy they call 2 Pound D_ _ _ (Short for Richard) because he found a 2 pound nugget. He lives in Imlay but was staying at Malone's. He showed me an area where he said he has found about 6 ounces with his GB2. That's all he uses. I have access to a bunch of claims around here but it has been too hot or I have been too busy with other things to get out much so far. Because the heat is messing with my refrigerator I am probably going to check into the RV park in Mill City. They have a pretty decent monthly rate.

Slim, 2 lb D is pretty good with that goldbug. Did he show you the picture of the nugget? I met and hunted with him at rye Patch last year and he was finding the gold.
