Hi all
Has anybody ever seen a Pharao's Eye?.It is a Sapphire With a round Eye mostly yellow centred,with blue or green around it.
I send it to Thailand to get cut.Sadly they stuffed it up.Thanks for any Feedback..Jimini

I'm not familiar with that variety of sapphire, it must be pretty unique. Is it something similar to a cat's eye or star with silk or a play of light in the center, or is it mainly a multi colored stone? Feel free to post photos if you can. Cutters in Thailand, and even the U.S. can sometimes give you back junk and just take the rough stones and "run". You have to make sure the outfit is reputable somehow.

Hi Rex B
This Sapphire is a Multicoulered Stone,With the Blue eye centred.it is very clear and the coulors are sharply divided.Now it looks like a crosseyed,single eyed Cyclop.Shame.
Had some advice on how to put Photos on this Forum,no luck so far,i am not very up to date with these fangled computers.
I normally hunt in the Central Highlands in Queensland,near Rubyvale,mainly multicoulered and green stones there.The best Blues are found nea r Glen Innes in N.S.W.being also High Country.
What are the Stones like in the States ,good Quality?? .

The quality of the stones in the U.S. is all ranges of specimens to facetable stones. Montana and North Carolina having most of the stones. The non-salted tourist mines in NC have mostly shut down although if someone were to rent a backhoe and purchase the right peice of property, they would have some nice rubies to show for it. Montana has more sapphires, there are several deposits with varying qualities from over there. The heat treated Montana stones can be quite valuable. I purchased some rough Australian stones. I had three but sold one. It is true that they often can be blue with part of the stone being yellow and also green. I think I have heard that the blues are a little lighter and better colored although a little smaller on average up in N.S.W. - less green tinge usually, Inverell Blue in the New England gemfields. I believe you have what are termed Coolamon blues in your area? From what I understand you occasionally have some monster sized sapphires in your region. The big yellow sapphires are worth big bucks. Do they find rubies anywhere near Rubyvale or in Australia? I haven't heard of much except for sapphires from over there. Hi Rex B and all
Rubyvale is a very missleading name,i believe somone has found a Ruby there some time ago.Then there are lots of Ruby coloured Zircons.
A friend of mine has a Sapphire mine at Ruby Hill,just out of Town,he has never found a Ruby in15 years.
In August we have the Gemfest in Anakie some 10 km.up the Road,very popular with Gem-buyers and sellers from around the World.The Gems on Display make your Eyes water and you mouth go dry.
there is a golden Sapphire on Display for $75 000.-.well one can only dream.
You seem to be very much involved in both parts of the forum,good on you Good hunting Jimini

A Friend of mine,who is well known in the Gem trade makes some very unusual Items.he travels the flea markets{Country Fairs] and Gemfest's.
He tumbles small Gems ,than sets them in epoxy resin on the back of small Toy Trucks,also "Gemtrees".like Bonzai trees with lots of gems attached like Fruit.Very effective
We also have ,what we call "Thunder Eggs".they can go up to the size of Emu Eggs.You cut them in slices,and polish them,nice colours and pattern.
