Here’s a google earth map with some placer areas southwest of Winnemucca. For more detailed information about the amount of gold recovered and coordinates, study the Northern Nevada post by Reno Chris and books such as the ones by Maureen Johnson or Delos Toole. The bottom section of this map is “zoomed-in” closer than the upper portion. On the map, Rye Patch is labeled as “Majuba Placer” and located west of Rye Patch Reservior.

admin,
I've been playing with Google's mineral resources downloadable data but haven't been able to bring up the one you posted with just the placers. Can you walk us through that? Thanks.

You're very welcome Seeker, it's the least I can do.

Hi Goldarnit,

I didn't use Google's mineral resources downloadable data for the map. I made this map before that came out. Instead, I took the free program of google earth, and went through some books converting the township/range/sections to gps coordinates and then plotted the the placers and labled them. Some of the placer locations may also have been taken from mindat.org. Next, I then took a snapshot of the map making it a jpg. file. There is always the real possibility that mistakes could have been made in the exact location of some of the placers. I haven't really started looking at the downloadable data resources, although it sounds like it could be useful.

RCB,
Oh, ok. Just a newbie and that's stuff over my head but thanks for posting it. Also, the ads dissappeared.

Goldarnit,

It's not as difficult as it sounds I use this site which automatically translates the township, range, & section coordinates to GPS coordinates:

http://www.esg.montana.edu/gl/trs-data.html

Plotting points on google earth and saving a photo of it is also simple once one knows how to do it. It does take a little bit of time though to plot a lot of points.
